Overview Of Fevers
- Fever occurs when the body temperature is higher the normal (a normal temperature is 98.60F or 370C)
- Points toward an irregular process within the body
- Fever is merely a symptom and not disease
- A fever is also referred to as ‘pyrexia‘
- A low temperature is generally between: 98.80F to 100.80F
- A moderate temperature is generally between: 1010F to 1030F
- A high fever is usually between: 1040F and above
Causes Of A High Fever
- Can occur when there is hot weather
- Childhood vaccination
- Microscopic or virus-related infections can cause high fevers
- Spending too much time in the sun can cause a high fever
- If you allergic to certain foods it can cause swelling and high fever
Symptoms Of A High Fever
- Your face will appear to be red
- You will lose your appetite
- Nausea can occur
- High fever is usually accompanied with vomiting
- Headaches are usually experienced with high fevers
- High fevers can result in constipation
- Diarrhea
High fever can be accompanied with:
- Confusion
- Seizures
Treatment Of High Fevers
- Observe your temperature by means of a thermometer
- Get rid of any extra clothing that is not needed
- Keep the individual in a place that is well ventilated
- Sponge the person using lukewarm water
- Make sure the person drinks plenty liquids
- Give the person the recommended doses of paracetamol
- Never offer aspirin to an individual who is suffering from a fever
- Don’t cover the individual in warm clothing as this will worsen the fever.
Phone your doctor if any of the follow symptoms occur:
- Breathing that appears to be irregular
- If the person is suffering from a stiff neck
- If the person appears to be confused
- The person starts to break out in rashes
- The person has a sore throat
- The person keeps vomiting
- Diarrhea
- The person is in pain when they urinate
- The person is experiencing seizures
